This tour is conducted by Norwegian Travel / Lyngsfjord Adventure. Reindeer sledding has been practiced for thousands of years and is therefore deeply rooted in the traditions and way of life of the indigenous Sami people. It has been an integral part of Arctic livelihoods and transportation for generations, making it one of the oldest forms of transportation in this region. Immerse yourself in their culture on this authentic evening reindeer sledding experience at Camp Tamok.
Join us on this reindeer sledding experience at Camp Tamok, just a 90-minute bus ride from the city center of Tromsø. Upon arrival, you will be outfitted with all the necessary clothing, ensuring you’re comfortable and warm for the journey ahead. As our reindeer herd is some distance away from our barking huskies, this activity will start with a short transfer by minibus.
This cultural adventure includes a short reindeer sledding tour, storytelling about the fascinating Sami culture and feeding of the reindeer. There are about 5-6 reindeer in the camp. Although we do not focus on chasing the northern lights during this tour, there is a chance we get a glimpse of the magical lights while outside, surrounded by total darkness.
After your encounter with the reindeer, you will return to Camp Tamok, where a warm meal awaits in one of our traditional lavvus (indigenous Sámi tent). With food and drinks served, gathered around the open fire, you will get the chance to relax and share stories of your recent adventures. After dinner, you will board the bus back to Tromsø, having some time to reflect on your recent adventures at Camp Tamok!
