Sunnfjord Museum

When you step into one of the small log houses at Sunnfjord Museum, you step into the lives of Sunnfjord people in the 1800s.
Along the paths between turf roofs, hayracks and a small mill stream, you can get an insight into everyday life in the time of our great-great-great-grandparents. The open-air museum showcases the cultural heritage and daily life of the inner Sunnfjord villages, with more than 30 historical buildings. Here you can explore traditional farms, homesteads and a sheiling. We also have beautiful hiking trails leading out from the museum grounds.
Indoors, you can experience different exhibitions throughout the year, including both self-produced and travelling exhibitions.
Café and gift shopThe gift shop offers a selection of cultural history books, gift items, traditional toys and handicraft. In the café, you can get coffee, ice-cream and other snacks.
Guided toursThe museum offers individual and custom tours for visitors in Norwegian and English.
AccessibilityThe open-air museum features gravel paths with varying accessibility. There is limited access to the historical buildings for visitors with reduced mobility, but we can facilitate access to some of them. Please contact us to make arrangements.
Season and eventsThe museum is open all-year-round, except for January, and we have a number of events and happenings throughout the year. Our website has an updated list of upcoming events.
Only 10 km from Sunnfjord Museum, you’ll find Sogn og Fjordane Art Museum – here you can experience a unique combination of art and Westland nature, right in downtown Førde.
