Towards the end of the nineteenth century the Lykling gold mines were at the centre of a gold rush that is unrivalled in Norwegian history. Hundreds of men were working in the mines in 1885, when activities peaked. Approximately 250 kilos of pure gold were found in total.
The gold mines is a lovely area for walking.
We suggest that you first visit the Stone exhibition at Moster Amfi and get the tour guide before going to the mine area.
The Steinriket Bømlo tour guide contains information about the the history of the mines and about walking trails in the area.
