The Norwegian Sawmill Museum
Spillum Dampsag & Høvleri (steamsaw & planing mill), just south of Namsos, is the country’s only major listed steamsaw mill, and one of fourteen technical-industrial cultural monuments of national importance in Norway. The Norwegian Sawmill Museum (Norsk Sagbruksmuseum) has preserved Spillum Dampsag & Høvleri as a time bubble where visitors travel back in time to the late 1800s. From time to time the old saw and planing mill are put into operation, thus helping create an authentic atmosphere. When visiting the sawmill museum you can choose between taking a tour on your own, or joining a guided tour of the production premises.
