Where to surf in Lista

Lista has perfect conditions for windsurfers, surfers and kite surfers. All year round, devoted surfers head to Lista in search of the perfect wave. The Coastline in Farsund is famous for its surfing opportunities, especially the beaches at Lista. Only a 1.5 hour drive from Kristiansand, it is easy to do a day trip to Lista to catch some waves. There are numerous places where people can take advantage of the swells coming in from the North Sea and for those windsurfers out there, the long sandy beaches make for perfect conditions. Please note that some beaches and areas have protected areas where it is not allowed to surf. Here is a downloadable map where you can see which areas are forbidden for surfers.

Windsurfing at Grettestø

Grettestø

Grettestø is located not far from the Lista Lighthouse and the location is known by the locals as "pisserenna". This location is ideal for experienced surfers, but it can be shallow in some areas, so be careful. Swell sizes vary throughout the year, but it is possible to surf there all year round. Windsurfers also use this location because the cross shore winds and swells provide exciting opportunities.

Haviksanden

Havik beach is probably the most popular beach in Lista for those that want to sunbake, take a walk along the shore or enjoy windsurfing. It is a long stretch of beach with sand dunes and is very popular for photographers.  Ideal windsurfing conditions are from April to November. It is possible for new beginner surfers to catch some small waves here when there are big swells in the region.
Please note that some parts of this beach are prohibited for surfing.

Tjørveneset

This beach is located approximately two kilometres south of Grettestø. The area does not get as much swell as Grettestø but it is a long sandy beach ok for beginners. Best conditions are from November to March.

Other surfable areas include;

Lille Rauna (Bua) - windsurfing for the experienced, best from October to March.
Osthassel - windsurfing and surfing, best from October to March.
Kviljo - windsurfing for beginners, best from April to November.

The surrounding areas
