Thirteen exceptional hotels across the country, from fjordside hideaways to sleek urban icons, have been awarded the prestigious Michelin Key. The honour places Norway at the forefront of Nordic hospitality, celebrating quality, character, and a unique connection to location.
Step inside Norway's Michelin Key hotels
Norway took the top spot in the Michelin Guide’s first-ever hotel awards for the Nordic region, with 13 hotels receiving the prestigious Michelin Key.
These are the Norwegian stays setting a new standard for
Nordic luxury.
In 2025, the Michelin Guide introduced its first-ever hotel awards for the Nordic countries. Just like Michelin stars for restaurants, hotels can now earn Michelin Keys, a new global distinction for exceptional stays.
There are three levels:
- One Key: a very special stay
- Two Keys: an exceptional stay
- Three Keys: an extraordinary, unforgettable experience
Inspectors look at five main aspects: design and architecture, service quality, personality, value for money, and the hotel’s connection to its surroundings. It’s all about stays that feel genuine and meaningful, where people, place and history come together in harmony.
The Michelin Key isn’t about luxury for luxury’s sake, but about authenticity, purpose and atmosphere. The Norwegian hotels recognised by the Michelin Guide are not overnight successes. They are the result of years of dedication, vision, craftsmanship and places that have built strong identities rooted in their surroundings.
