Previous acts at the festival include Robert Plant, John Mayer, ZZ Top, Biffy Clyro, Imagine Dragons and Lana Del Rey to name a few. Bergenfest in the press: Bergenfest has received standing ovations from the press, and has established itself as a modern music festival of both national and international interest. In 2000, Bergenfest, then named Ole Blues Festival, was voted “Festival of the Year” by its peers in the Norwegian Rock Festival Council. The festival has also received the price of honour from Bergen Tourist Board in 2001, “for excellent marketing of Bergen”. Black metal and jazz
Norway is in many ways a country of extremes, so it’s perhaps no coincidence genres like black metal and jazz have thrived here for decades. Norway is the home of black metal, and there is no better place to experience it than the Inferno festival, held every Easter in Oslo. There are also international jazz festivals in Bergen, Molde, Kongsberg, Haugesund, Oslo, Lillehammer and more.
For more extremes, enjoy Ekstremsportveko in Voss, the largest extreme sports festival of its kind, which also includes live music performances. And don't miss Voss's jazz festival, Vossajazz, usually held in April.

Maijazz in Stavanger
Maijazz has become one of the foremost recurring cultural events in the Stavanger region. Like most artistic projects, Maijazz also had a challenging start, and its success was by no means guaranteed. The festival is the result of strong collaboration between talented artists, enthusiastic volunteers, supportive politicians, loyal sponsors and, not least, an ever-growing and knowledgeable audience. Each of these has played a crucial role in developing the festival into one of the country's leading events in its category. Maijazz is committed to playing a role in the exciting development and challenges facing the Stavanger region. Maijazz provides great experiences and brings life to the city Maijazz aims to contribute to the enjoyment of music, insight and reflection. But of course also to good entertainment, great experiences and life in the city. Maijazz has contributed to the region with artists such as Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, E.S.T., Joe Zawinul and Youssou N'dour, to name but a few of those who have visited Stavanger and Maijazz. Maijazz is constantly evolving Maijazz wants to be a driving force in the cultural development of the region. In recent years, the established collaboration with the University of Stavanger has really taken off. The Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble is a cornerstone of the festival. The series ‘Tett på en Helt’ (Close to a Hero, part of the Blå Trå series at Stavanger Jazzforum) has become one of the most popular events among students at the Institute of Music and Dance/UiS. The collaboration with Stavanger Cathedral School/Music, Dance and Drama, Vågen Upper Secondary School in Sandnes, St. Svithun Upper Secondary School and the Culture School in Bjergsted focuses on the development of musicians, the music scene in the region and, not least, audience development.Festivals for foodies
Food, and especially locally-sourced food, is increasingly important to Norwegians, and there are several annual bigger festivals, like for example the Matstreif festival in Oslo, the Trøndelag Food Festival and Trondheim Brewery Festival and Gladmat in Stavanger, but also several niche festivals like the Rakfisk (semi-fermented trout) festival in Valdres and cider festivals in Hardanger.

For over 70 years the Bergen International Festival has been an international meeting-place for creative forces and people of diverse backgrounds. The programme builds on classical music and theatrical art, branching out in a variety of directions. The Festival embraces international stars and newcomers, capacious concert halls and intimate recitals, the old, the new, and everything that occurs when they come together. The UNESCO city of Bergen, encompassing such historical venues as the home of composer Edvard Grieg and the 750-year-old royal seat Håkonshallen, is the backdrop for hundreds of experiences of living art and memories for life created by the Festival for fifteen days in spring every year. The Bergen International Festival coalesces when art forms meet, in encounters between tradition and renewal, reflection and rejoicing, stage and auditorium. About the Bergen International Festival • The Festival is under the patronage of His Majesty King Harald V. • Presents music, opera, theatre, dance, debates and family events during 15 days in May/June every year. • The first Bergen International Festival was held in 1953. • Lars Petter Hagen has been the Festival director since 2022. • The Bergen International Festival had an attendance of 72.000 in 2023. Norway is home to several international film festivals The international film festival in Tromsø in January has a unique Arctic atmosphere, while the Film fra Sør (Films from the South) festival in Oslo screens new and exciting titles from Asia, Africa and South America. Bergen is home to the popular international film festival BIFF, usually held in October.
And last, but not least, there are also a variety of theatre and literature festivals.

For over 70 years the Bergen International Festival has been an international meeting-place for creative forces and people of diverse backgrounds. The programme builds on classical music and theatrical art, branching out in a variety of directions. The Festival embraces international stars and newcomers, capacious concert halls and intimate recitals, the old, the new, and everything that occurs when they come together. The UNESCO city of Bergen, encompassing such historical venues as the home of composer Edvard Grieg and the 750-year-old royal seat Håkonshallen, is the backdrop for hundreds of experiences of living art and memories for life created by the Festival for fifteen days in spring every year. The Bergen International Festival coalesces when art forms meet, in encounters between tradition and renewal, reflection and rejoicing, stage and auditorium. About the Bergen International Festival • The Festival is under the patronage of His Majesty King Harald V. • Presents music, opera, theatre, dance, debates and family events during 15 days in May/June every year. • The first Bergen International Festival was held in 1953. • Lars Petter Hagen has been the Festival director since 2022. • The Bergen International Festival had an attendance of 72.000 in 2023.
