Festivals in Norway might present you with 'four seasons in one day' and it is highly recommended to pack functional clothing. Here is a list of essentials:
Layered clothing: add or remove clothing according to the temperature. Light wool is recommended, even during summer.
Rain gear/poncho: stay dry on a rainy day.
Rain boots: you get far with trainers, but only rain boots will keep your feet happy in heavy rain.
Sunglasses: look like a rock star. No need to squint at the stage.
Sunscreen: protect yourself in the sun.
Earplugs: in case you need to give your ears a break.
Black metal and jazz
Norway is in many ways a country of extremes, so it’s perhaps no coincidence genres like black metal and jazz have thrived here for decades. Norway is the home of black metal, and there is no better place to experience it than the Inferno festival, held every Easter in Oslo. There are also international jazz festivals in Bergen, Molde, Kongsberg, Haugesund, Oslo, Lillehammer and more.
For more extremes, enjoy Ekstremsportveko in Voss, the largest extreme sports festival of its kind, which also includes live music performances. And don't miss Voss's jazz festival, Vossajazz, usually held in April.
Jazz and Blues festivals
Experience Europe's oldest annual jazz festival in Molde and other top festivals.
Festivals for foodies
Food, and especially locally-sourced food, is increasingly important to Norwegians, and there are several annual bigger festivals, like for example the Matstreif festival in Oslo, the Trøndelag Food Festival and Trondheim Brewery Festival and Gladmat in Stavanger, but also several niche festivals like the Rakfisk (semi-fermented trout) festival in Valdres and cider festivals in Hardanger.

3-course dinner // Fjærå Sjøhus // Håsong 2026
The village of Hosanger, as a church site and municipal centre, and especially the area around Mjøsvågen, has over the years had many licensed premises and dining venues. Fjærå Sjøhus is located in premises that have previously been both a coffin factory and a boathouse, and is a family business run by father and son, Terje and Erlend Mjøs. They proudly carry on the village's tradition of welcoming visitors and locals alike. But in a new era, where Hosanger is increasingly visited by people from all over the world. Largely due to Kossdalsvegen and the 17 spectacular bends up the mountain pass at the end of the valley. The premises on the ground floor, with original timber walls and maritime decor, where the 3-course dinner is served, is normally used for pub evenings, intimate concerts, pop-up dinners, private events and more. Fjærå Sjøhus has promised us an exciting menu featuring among other things langoustine and monkfish, and we hope as many as possible would like to join us for this year's 3-course dinner during Håsong. 3-course menu Langoustine soup Root vegetables · sea roe · toasted sourdough bread · wild garlic butter Monkfish Broccolini · parsnip purée · cured ham · chanterelle sauce Chantilly cream Fresh fruit · lemon curd Photo: Rune Langeland - Book nowBønes25.09.2026

Festivals in the great outdoors
Try a unique festival in the wild surrounded by gorgeous Norwegian nature. Enjoy live music on remote islands where the sun never sets or high up in the mountains. It's perfect for combining a love of music and the outdoors and you'll be able to explore exciting parts of Norway.
There are also several festivals that focus on indigenous Sami art, music, literature and culture, such as Riddu Riđđu and Márkomeannu.
