Trail etiquette
Having great trails to ride on is not a right, but a privilege. The Norwegian mountain biking association (NOTS) urges everyone to be considerate on the trail. Here are the most important guidelines:
1. Be considerate and give way to pedestrians.
2. Limit your speed, don’t be a danger or nuisance to others.
3. Don’t make new trails.
4. Don’t ride on vulnerable trails right after a heavy rainfall.
5. Don’t make the trail wider.
6. Carry your bike through marshland to prevent deep ruts.
7. Don’t lock the rear wheel when riding down steep hills.
8. The cyclist riding uphill has right of way.
Downhill biking is, as the name implies, all about the ride down. In Hafjell, a gondola and a chairlift are both ready to transport you and your bike up to the trailheads – so you can focus on the ride down.
The 19 downhill trails in Hafjell Bike Park vary from wide open machine-built roller coaster trails to more technical steep and winding single tracks through the forest.
All the trails are colour marked according to their difficulty, and there are routes for every skill level, from first-timers to true bike nuts.
Try out the new Flowklypa rail. It's guaranteed to thrill!
The perfect activity for the whole family! Step off the Gondola at Mosetertoppen, where you can ride bikes, skateboards, or scooters on the large paved pump track – suitable for both beginners and expert mountain bikers who want some skills training. Bring your own bike or rent one at Favn Bike Rental, where you can also borrow bicycles and helmets for the youngest children free of charge! The little ones will also love the big new climbing frame with playground equipment. If you are lucky, you'll get to meet the mascot ISA up there.
Mosetertoppen offers an excellent view over Gudbrandsdalen valley. There are several spots where you can enjoy a good lunch, fresh cinnamon buns, and ice cream. Visit the restaurants Skavlen, Sætra, or Favn for a tasty energy top-up!
Hafjell and the surrounding areas have many opportunities for other types of biking as well. Øyerfjellet is a cycling paradise and easily accessible from Mosetertoppen. Whether you prefer wider roads, wooded paths and gravel roads, or more gnarly trails covered with tree roots and rocks, Hafjell offers fantastic experiences.
From Mosetertoppen, the trail network stretches for kilometres to the east and north and also connects with the Sjusjøen and Lillehammer trails in the south. You’ll cycle through a varied landscape just at the tree line, with stunning views of the nearby mountains and valleys.
If you are a newbie, you might not know that LBS means “local bike shop”. At Hafjell Bike Shop, you can find rental bikes for the whole family – from downhill and full suspension trail bikes to cross-country and e-bikes, along with all the necessary protective equipment.
If you have a problem with your own bike, the Bike shop's expert staff can fix pretty much everything.
Do you need an introduction to downhill biking, want to achieve a better flow, or want to master that tricky turn? A local team of experienced instructors can guide you through Hafjell’s trails, either alone or in a group lesson.
The Lillehammer region is full of fun amusement parks, including Hunderfossen and Lilleputthammer, art and outdoor museums, like Lillehammer Art Museum and Maihaugen, and events and activities for the whole family. With plenty of restaurants and accommodation options in the area, you’re sure to have a pleasant stay.
