Top 5 Succession locations in Norway
Norway's dramatic west coast provides the spectacular backdrop to numerous scenes in season four of the award-winning HBO series Succession.
"Norway is a glorious, natural setting. It immediately seemed like a perfect place for a family gathering in the series," producer Scott Ferguson told Variety.
He and his team considered several different countries, but realized that Norway has "an exceptional landscape like nowhere else in the world." We agree! Here, you can see why:
1
The Atlantic Road
James Bond has been here before, and now the Roys are also swapping the streets of Manhattan for Norway's dramatic mountains and fjords.
See them drive along the spectacular 36-kilometre-long coastal Atlantic Road, a must-do experience for billionaires and less moneyed visitors alike.
The Atlantic Road is just one of 18 scenic routes in Norway, so the crew should come back soon if it needs even more epic road shots!
2
A sky bar to remember
Wow! Enjoy a drink or a delicious meal with panoramic fjord views from the state-of-the-art Eggen restaurant at the top of the Nesaksla mountain.
You can ride the Romsdal gondola to the top, if you don't want to do the 2-hour hike up...
The gondola is situated in the mountaineering capital of Åndalsnes, where you can enjoy the impressive Trollveggen mountain massif (pictured), Europe's highest vertical drop, around 1,000 metres!
Get here onboard the famous Raumabanen Railway!
3
Trollstigen
Continue onwards like the Roys by driving one of the most famous Norwegian Scenic Routes, Trollstigen, 'The Troll Ladder', a visual masterpiece.
You can really feel your adrenaline pumping on this iconic road!
The road twists through eleven hairpin bends as it climbs up to Stigrøra, 858 metres above sea level.
4
The WOW hotel
Many key scenes in season four are set in and around the Juvet Landscape Hotel in Valldal, close to the breathtaking Geirangerfjord.
By the way, the sci-fi film Ex Machina was also shot here!
5
The Art Nouveau town
The Roys might have missed it this time, but the perfect gateway and base camp for your Succession adventures is the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund in northern Fjord Norway.
Here, you can sample delicious and fresh seafood and enjoy the good life in elegant hotels such as Brosundet or Storfjord Hotel, before ...
... setting sail on an unforgettable cruise to the spectacular UNESCO Heritage site of Geirangerfjord.
Tip: The Geirangerfjord is even more dramatic in winter!
