Trondheim in summer

Fun and flavourful!

© Mapbox © OpenStreetMap Improve this map

Halfway(ish!) between the North and the South lies Trondheim, a beautiful city full of friendly locals, called Trøndere in Norwegian. Here, Viking history meets a young, creative vibe. The city is home to the iconic Nidaros Cathedral, a national treasure, while the state-of-the-art museum PoMo is one of several experiences that has put Trondheim on the cultural map.

The city is also home to two Michelin-starred restaurants: Fagn, known for its inventive Nordic cuisine, and Speilsalen, at the elegant, listed Britannia Hotel. It’s no surprise that international culinary experts named Trøndelag – the county in which Trondheim is located – the European Region of Gastronomy in 2022 – the first time the title was awarded to a Norwegian region.

With a compact and pedestrian-friendly city centre and reliable public transport, getting around Trondheim is easy.

Stroll around the colourful, cobbled pedestrian streets in the historic Bakklandet area – a popular meeting place that manages to be both hip and charming at the same time.

Enjoy a coffee at one of the many cosy local cafés, before hopping on a bike, just like the locals do!

In the last few years, Trondheim has established itself as Norway's leading cycling city. Bakklandet is home to Trampe, the world's first bicycle lift!

Continue cycling or walk across the Gamle Bybro bridge towards the city centre. Take your time so you don't miss…

… the view of the 18th century wooden warehouses that line the Nidelva river.

When you get to the other side of the river, head to the Nidarosdomen Cathedral, Trondheim’s Gothic queen.

We walk together in Herborg's songbook When Kråkevik's songbook was published in 2000, with her warm and distinctive interpretations of, among others, "Den fyrste song", "Til ungdommen" and "Blåmann", the album became an immediate sensation. Kråkevik was described as Norway's number one songbird and was named Spellemann of the Year – with the justification: "Never has the Norwegian song treasure been interpreted in a finer way." The recordings, made in collaboration with the TrondheimSolistene, sold an impressive 250,000 copies and placed the album among the best-selling Norwegian releases of all time. Throughout her career, Herborg Kråkevik has shown rare versatility as a singer, actress and lyricist, and has consolidated her position as one of the country's foremost cultural communicators. In 2026, she is once again highly relevant – both in the popular TV series Hver gang vi møtes on TV2 in January, and with a new album and book in March. The new album is a collection of several Norwegian songs, and the book is a collaboration with the National Museum where songs and paintings are put together under the title "Vi vandrar saman". After three sold-out anniversary concerts in 2025, the Kråkevik and Trondheim Soloists will now embark on a grand tour in the spring of 2026. The ensemble is in the process of renewing the repertoire from the Songboka, and the audience can look forward to both immortal classics and brand new songs from the upcoming album. Here, beloved songs await in a new guise - performed by world-class musicians. Join us for an unforgettable concert experience! Balladen om Bøler Samvirkelag – Bøler Samvirkelag + Burrows&Fargion

Price: Pay what you can 80kr - 280kr Location: Rosendal Teater - Sal 2 Length: 40 min Language: Norwegian The performance is sign language interpreted in Norwegian Recommended age limit from 8 years and up Dear guest. The Ballad of Bøler is performed by us and an old horse. We travel in and out of day and night, up and down and flat and steep, eat apples and ancient bread, we dance all kinds of steps about life and death, and carry a lady through distress. We move with pride as dancers and band - in a ballad about doing things hand in hand. The dance collective Bøler Samvirkelag has invited choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion to a collaboration, where the starting point for the work is Burrows and Fargion's long-standing work with dance as music. In the performance, the performers are both a live band and a dance troupe. In this collaboration between experienced artists, they question individual artistic presence, and work with dance and music as a common action. In Bøler Samvirkelag+ we take shape as a performer-driven company, where we are the ones who invite choreographers to create works with us. Those we invite will lead us into artistic processes where we can hone in on their practices, methods and approaches. We strive to invite artists/choreographers with widely different practices, artistic interests and aesthetic expression. In 2022 we carried out the project Granddaughters with choreographers Eliisa Erävalo and Halla Ólafsdóttir, a dramatic and theatrical performance with a strong female community both in thematics and on stage. Bøler Samvirkelag is the dance artists Ingeleiv Berstad, Ida Gudbrandsen, Marie Bergby Handeland, Kristin Ryg Helgebostad, Pernille Holden, Marianne Kjærsund, Sigrid Kopperdal and Venke Marie Sortland. We share an interest in artist-driven processes, self-organization, the relationship between practice and theory, power structures and the redistribution of power, and Bøler Samvirkelag is a place where we can explore this in practice. Duration: 12 hours spread over 2 days Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM (7 PM)** Sunday: 10 AM – 3 PM (5 PM)** Course fee: NOK 3800 (adult) / NOK 3300 (senior/student) The beginner’s wheel-throwing weekend offers time and space to learn basic throwing techniques over the course of a weekend. This course is suitable for anyone interested in trying out the pottery wheel—whether or not you have prior experience with clay. It’s designed for adults*, and can be adapted to meet individual needs. We work in small groups of around 9 participants. The course is primarily held in Norwegian, but English or German are also no problem. The course is led by Franziska and runs from 10 AM to 5 PM (7 PM)** on Saturday, and from 10 AM to 3 PM (5 PM)** on Sunday. The main focus is on mastering the individual steps of the wheel-throwing process. We learn by observing—understanding with the head, but mastering with the hands. This process requires concentration and patience, while offering a unique sense of presence as your body learns to handle the clay on the wheel. We progress in small steps and grow fond of each little bowl we create. The course provides a solid foundation to continue working on your own at the wheel—either in our open studio or at home. On Saturday, we work on preparing the clay, centering it on the wheel, and pulling up walls to create cups and bowls. Sunday is mostly dedicated to trimming, where we remove excess clay from the pieces made the day before and shape them to a nice form and finish. It's also possible to learn how to make and attach handles to cups on this day. After drying, the pieces will be fired in the kiln. At the end of the course, we’ll agree on how the items should be glazed. If you wish to do the glazing yourself, you can sign up for a glazing course***. Finished pieces can be picked up about 3 weeks later. * It's possible to register a youth (age 16+) at the student price if they are accompanied by a participating adult. ** After the official course hours, participants have the option to continue working independently for up to two extra hours. *** Please note that there must be at least three weeks between the two courses to allow the pottery to dry and be fired before glazing. You can still sign up for a glazing course after completing the wheel-throwing course—you don’t need to book it right away and can choose a date that suits you later. Kenneth Norum - Antiquarian

Kenneth Norum is a storyteller of the old type, he has something to tell and when he starts, there is silence, every single time. Kenneth grew up in the small town of Skogbygda. In 2017, his debut album Heart on a Sleeve was released and was immediately praised by many critics. This was followed by concerts in large parts of Norway and radio plays at home and abroad. In 2024, his latest album This Too Will Pass was released and once again Kenneth proves that he is a songwriter from the very top shelf. The album received rave reviews, including 8/10 stars in the English music magazine Americana UK. Whether alone or with his band, he manages to captivate his audience from the first note. With his raw and soulful voice, he conveys the songs with a nerve that touches. You can easily draw lines to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits, but there is also something modern about the expression. If you're a fan of Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes or Ray LaMontagne, you'll also like Kenneth Norum.

Price: Pay what you can 80kr - 280kr Location: Rosendal Teater - Sal 1 Duration: 50 min Recommended age limit 12 years Welcome to a physical dance experience that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Horácio Macuacua lets rhythm become body: a language of muscles, sweat and breath. It is gravity and liberation, weight and play. The rhythm knocks – on doors, in the chest, through the floor. The rhythm speaks before we have words, it moves us before we understand. The rhythm is everywhere. Can you feel it? The ensemble in Norrdans is thrown into a powerful current, lifted by the unstoppable energy of the rhythms. They fall, rise and breathe in a common tempo. The rhythm becomes a universal alphabet — it fuses us together into one body, one room, one moment. Knocking celebrates rhythm as a language in itself. The rhythm in the music, in the steps, in the space, in the breath, in the feeling. The performance explores the intimate relationship we create with rhythm in all its forms, both external and internal, and reveals its power to unite, communicate and transform. The rhythm becomes a relationship we hold in and are held by — a force that knocks on the doors of the unresolved stories within us. Together we move towards something profound, like a pulse that weaves us together. We follow a charismatic hypnotist who is driven mad by his belief in market forces and self-improvement, before he finally finds both his own and the world's salvation in the musical unity of the big band. Cosmic Swing Orchestra has been mixing music, satire and performance art since 2018, and The Jazz Togetherness Show is the band's largest production to date. In a time marked by global crises, climate fear and a constant rush for self-optimization, we are drowning in advice on how to become better, healthier and more successful. Influencers, consumers and technocrats are dancing towards doom in the pursuit of the best version of themselves. The performance is a satirical and absurd commentary on the culture of life mastery and the contrast between the crises around us and the smooth superficiality of today, and shows how music can be a force in the face of this. www.jazzfest.no Location: Hall 1 Duration: approx. 100 min Language: Norwegian More info, tickets and content warning can be found at https://rosendalteater.no/program/the-jazz-togetherness-show

    Operakafé: Opera Rocks!

A meeting between rock and opera! 3 versatile opera singers who are all able to cross over to other genres, choose their favorites from modern rock opera and opera repertoire! Classics such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, Tommy and Rocky Horror are included. It is time for a new way of thinking about an old genre and many surprises! Cast: Stian Økland, tenor. Angelle Khachik, soprano. Marte Arnesen, soprano. Knut Erik Jensen, piano. Stian Økland, tenor (han, ham) Operakafé presents curated quality concerts in informal settings, where the audience gets up close to outstanding opera singers. We challenge both the audience and performers with a varied program and highlight queer, unique and marginalized voices. In this way, we create a low-threshold meeting place that contributes to dialogue, knowledge and interest in opera, and that reaches a wide audience. Organized by Operavennforening in collaboration with Skeive Stemmer operakompani. The concert series is supported by the Norwegian Directorate of Culture and Sparebank1 SMN Sammunsutbytte. In collaboration with Skeive Stemmer, we provide space and work for queer artists and stories. Queer performers and audiences have long been part of the opera community, and we want to give space to stories that reflect their experiences. The audience gains insight into the music and the singer's artistry through personal anecdotes and historical perspectives. Operakafé has developed into an arena for artistic collaborations across genres, without hierarchy and status hunting. We want to reflect the diversity of society, and the audience today ranges from 18 to 90 years old. Generational meetings and meetings across culture and identity have become a natural part of our expression.

    Kim Torrejas: Fucking straight

What happens when the majority suddenly becomes the minority? In Damn Straight, Kim Torrejas lets us experience norm pressure from the other side, where liking the "wrong" gender suddenly becomes a risky sport – a sharp, funny and moving young adult novel that is both touching and heartwarming. In the village of Vrangvik, there is one thing that applies: You have to be gay. Everything else is weird. When Ask realizes that he likes girls, his life is turned upside down. Suddenly, he risks becoming the school's new "straight" - and thus the one who doesn't fit in. Damn Straight is an honest, funny and thought-provoking novel about identity, friendship and the pressure of norms. With an effective and original approach, Torrejas lets us see our own reality from the inside out: What happens to us when the majority becomes the minority? The result is both entertaining satire and a warm story about finding out who you are in a world that would rather you be someone else. On Friday, April 17, we will meet Kim Torrejas at the Literature House in Trondheim for a conversation about her debut novel, about writing young adult literature that challenges norms – and about why sometimes it takes an inverted world to see our own more clearly. Kim Torrejas (1993) is from Fredrikstad, but now lives in Oslo. He works as a teacher, and during his studies he delved into queer themes and wrote a master's degree on the use of film and literature for intercultural learning. Damn Hetero (2025) is his debut novel.
