Drammen is situated only 40 minutes from Oslo by car. It is the second largest city in Eastern Norway and is easy to get to by train or by bus. Historically, log rafting and manufacturing have been important parts of its history.

Drammen has won several awards for its urban development. Drive through the spiral-shaped tunnel Spiralen, stroll along Elvepromenaden and explore the region's top-class art museums.

It is also highly recommended to take a road trip to the south along the Drammensfjord, exploring coastal gems like cosy Holmsbu and the beaches at Rødtangen before taking Norway’s shortest ferry ride from Klokkarstua to Svelvik, with its white wooden houses. Stop by fruit farms and the Fossekleiva kultursenter along the way.

The mountains near Drammen are popular hiking and skiing areas. You can also go alpine skiing in Strømsø or Åssiden.

    Blaafarveverket and The Cobalt mines

Blaafarveværket has a long history, having been established as early as 1776. For over 100 years, thousands of people worked to extract cobalt from the deep mines at Modum. Between 1776 and 1898, Blaafarveværket was, at times, one of the most significant cobalt producers in the world. Blaafarveværket consists of a series of cultural monuments that convey an essential phase in Norwegian industrial history. Today, Blaafarveværket is an 8 km long museum with a blend of art, culture, and nature that create tranquillity, recreation, and experiences for all generations. In 1763, merchant Jørgen von Cappelen bought the estate and developed and modernized the manor. Today, the main building of Fossesholm Manor is a museum that showcases the beautiful interiors from the estate's heyday in the 18th century. Drammens Museum, dep. Friluftsmuseet

Short history: In 1914, Drammen Museum acquired a log cabin from Moldbakken in Torpo, Hallingdal. The cottage had been exhibited at the Jubilee Exhibition in Frogner (Kristiania), and the museum had borrowed the furnishings. Now, the museum could take ownership of the house and reconstruct it in the park at Marienlyst. Drammen Museum had budding ambitions to create an open-air museum inspired by the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, with the task of showcasing the rural culture of Buskerud before industrialization. Several old log houses from Hallingdal followed: a storage shed from Tunehagen in Ål was erected in 1917, a stable from Søre Villand in Hol was reconstructed in 1922, and a loft cabin from Mellom Rue in Hol was reconstructed in 1927. Then, a sauna from Rud in Hovet was added in 1937. The museum purchased these houses. However, the war halted the project, which aimed to create an open-air museum on a plot of land extending to Danvikgata. Now, in the middle of the city's recreational area, 300 meters from Spiraltoppen, 21 old log houses have been reconstructed to illustrate past farming practices and building traditions in Buskerud.

    Drammen

    Drammens Teater

Drammens Theatre is one of the country's oldest and most active entertainment venues! Drammen has rich theatre traditions dating back to the 1770s. Drammens Theatre, in its current appearance, was completed on February 8, 1870, and was designed by architect Emil Victor Langlet, who also designed the Norwegian Parliament Building. The theatre was modelled after the Parisian theatres Porte St. Martin and Châtelet, making it the country's first "modern" theatre house. The theatre was considered one of the most beautiful in the Nordic region. An arson attack in 1993 destroyed the Drammen Theatre. The day after the fire, the board of the Drammens Theatre Association decided that the theatre building would be rebuilt in the same style, based on the remaining outer walls. On February 8, 1997, the king opened a brand new theatre, filled with traditions from the old one, and inaugurated it with a proud population of Drammen. The classical appearance combines with modern and efficient technology.

Jonas B. Gundersen first opened its doors in 1990, firmly believing that a combination of Italian and American dishes with good music was something we Norwegians would appreciate. And it was true. Now, many years later, Gundersen is present in five Norwegian cities. Or rather, let's say Jonas B. The atmosphere and vibe are far too informal and pleasant to use the last name. From the very beginning, pizza has been a star on our menu. But not just any pizza. In 1998, our chefs returned triumphant from the World Pizza Championship in Las Vegas, proudly wearing a gold medal. Since then, our menu has grown, offering a wide range of pizza varieties and exciting dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds every time you visit. Stop by Jonas B for a restaurant with a cosy atmosphere and great food that suits everyone!
