Voss is a charming town in the heart of Fjord Norway between Bergen, the Sognefjord and the Hardangerfjord.

Renowned for its vibrant sports and music scene, Voss takes pride in its Olympic medalists, legendary skiers and famed festivals.

Voss is called an extreme sports town, and for good reason. Visitors can experience everything from indoor and outdoor skydiving to rafting, and the Voss Gondola provides easy access to the mountains.

Getting here is easy. Voss is well connected by train, bus, and car, and Bergen Airport (Flesland) is just two hours to the west.

During the winter months, Voss is transformed into a skiing paradise, with both alpine slopes and cross-country skiing trails for the whole family.

Together, the two ski resorts Myrkdalen Mountain Resort and Voss Resort have 70 kilometres of slopes and 20 ski lifts as well as excellent areas for off-piste skiing.

The Voss Gondola is a year round service that takes you from Voss railway station to Mount Hanguren (820 metres above sea level) in less than nine minutes.

Once at the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the village, hiking trails for all difficulty levels, and delicious local food in the largest restaurant in Voss.

The region is known for its traditional Norwegian cuisine.

Visit the 18th-century farm Smalahovetunet to taste some of the local specialities. Like rømmegrøt, sour cream porridge, cured meat, and pinnekjøtt, steamed and salted lamb ribs that are traditionally served at Christmas.

Do sample the farm’s signature dish: smalahove, a sheep’s head that has been salt-cured, smoked and cooked. Not for the faint of heart but delicious (if not exactly vegan)!

Although Voss is a small town with only 15,000 inhabitants, it has produced some of Norway’s greatest athletes.

With a total of 98 medals from world championships and Olympic Games, Voss has more medals per capita than any other place in the world!

Voss also hosts the world’s largest extreme sports festival, Ekstremsportveko, and the extremely popular music festival, Vossa Jazz.

But be warned: the Voss experience can be addictive. Extremely addictive.

    Several bus services stop in Voss, from destinations including Bergen, Sogndal, Flåm, and Lillehammer.

    It's relatively easy to get to Voss by car as well. The E16 (the main motorway between Bergen and Oslo) and the inland Rv13 motorway both pass through Voss.

  • By train

    There are several daily departures to Voss from both Oslo (6 hours) and Bergen (1 hour and 15 minutes).

    Flåmsbana (The Flåm Railway) loops its way from Myrdal to Flåm 865 metres below, nestled in the innermost corner of the Aurlandfjord. The journey from Flåm to Voss takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

  • By plane

    Bergen Airport is the main gateway for both international and domestic flights in the region. The travel time from Bergen to Voss is approximately 1.5 hours.
