Trondheim in summer

Fun and flavourful!

© Mapbox © OpenStreetMap Improve this map

Halfway(ish!) between the North and the South lies Trondheim, a beautiful city full of friendly locals, called Trøndere in Norwegian. Here, Viking history meets a young, creative vibe. The city is home to the iconic Nidaros Cathedral, a national treasure, while the state-of-the-art museum PoMo is one of several experiences that has put Trondheim on the cultural map.

The city is also home to two Michelin-starred restaurants: Fagn, known for its inventive Nordic cuisine, and Speilsalen, at the elegant, listed Britannia Hotel. It’s no surprise that international culinary experts named Trøndelag – the county in which Trondheim is located – the European Region of Gastronomy in 2022 – the first time the title was awarded to a Norwegian region.

With a compact and pedestrian-friendly city centre and reliable public transport, getting around Trondheim is easy.

Stroll around the colourful, cobbled pedestrian streets in the historic Bakklandet area – a popular meeting place that manages to be both hip and charming at the same time.

Enjoy a coffee at one of the many cosy local cafés, before hopping on a bike, just like the locals do!

In the last few years, Trondheim has established itself as Norway's leading cycling city. Bakklandet is home to Trampe, the world's first bicycle lift!

Continue cycling or walk across the Gamle Bybro bridge towards the city centre. Take your time so you don't miss…

… the view of the 18th century wooden warehouses that line the Nidelva river.

When you get to the other side of the river, head to the Nidarosdomen Cathedral, Trondheim’s Gothic queen.

    Brother | The Antiquarian | 24 July

The Sørland band Bror represents the big brother many wish they had – the one who always has a guitar on his shoulder and a story lurking. He sits by the fire and makes people listen; sometimes you laugh, other times the words sit like a little lump in your throat. With richly illustrated narratives, everyday observations and a unique ability to create recognition, the band conveys stories that are experienced as both personal and universal. Inspired by the Norwegian folk song tradition, Bror continues the legacy of Ole Paus and Lillebjørn Nilsen, while also making their own mark with new perspectives and a modern soundscape. In May, the band released their second EP - Samvirkelag. With warmth and thoughtfulness, Bror puts words to the familiar and recognizable, and invites the listener into a universe characterized by calm, reflection and presence. The winter of 2026 has been an active period for the band, with concerts at festivals in Oslo, recommendations from P3 Urørt on all songs from the debut EP "Veiviser", as well as a sold-out concert at Vaktbua in Kristiansand and a support job for Delillos at Kick Scene. The audience can expect an evening of intimate stories, musical presence and songs that strike a balance between the everyday and the timeless.

Together with the Trondheim Soloists, Rohey performs Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" as well as a bunch of other classic songs, beautifully arranged by Martin Myhre Olsen. "One of the country's strongest voices, which shows that there can still be a lot of life left in old songs," wrote Dagsavisen when the constellation held a concert during the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2025. ROHEY TAALAH is an award-winning jazz and soul vocalist known from the band Gurls, which won the Spellemannprisen for jazz album of the year in 2018. She has been with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra on several occasions and has also sung with Bigbang and Jarle Bernhoft and warmed up for a-ha in Spektrum. TRONDHEIMSOLISTENE is recognized for representing chamber music at the highest level. Passionate performances, innovation and an inherent musicality are key words, whether they make critically acclaimed recordings, play live from Lofoten to Berlin or form meaningful collaborations with musicians from all disciplines. "To live on" is written and directed by Nina Wester based on conversations with a family from Northern Norway who lost one of their own on Utøya. This is not a joke, but on the contrary a very entertaining and topical meeting between three strong voices from Scandinavia – and one of the most popular podcasts in the Nordic region. The Norwegian, the Swedish and the Danish is a weekly radio program and podcast broadcast on NRK (Norway), SR (Sweden) and DR (Denmark). Here, Hilde Sandvik (Norwegian journalist and presenter), Åsa Linderborg (Swedish author and public debater) and Hassan Preisler (Danish playwright and cultural figure) meet to discuss politics, culture and society – with both seriousness, brotherly teasing and a lot of humor. For Olavsfest 2026, the trio will return to Trondheim for the fourth year in a row. Previously, they have filled Byscenen and Palmehaven, but in 2025 they found a new home at the lovely Nye Hjorten Teater. Expect entertaining "family therapy" between neighboring countries! Concert time: 11:30 13:30 Duration approximately 20 minutes. amaida. is an Oslo-based Cameroonian-Norwegian artist, who blends rnb, soul and funk with honest reflections on her unique journey. Through her music, she creates a sanctuary for overthinking and highly sensitive souls, offering a safe space to feel, reflect and heal. amaida.'s heartfelt melodies and lyrics tackle the complexities of human emotions, inviting listeners to embrace their vulnerability and find solace in the music. Audiences have drawn parallels between amaida.s sound and artists like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Jazmine Sullivan and Yebba. Add a little emotional turbulence in a familiar Gen Z style and you have amaida. The 23-year-old from Trøndelag made an impression at last year's Vill Vill Vest, her first festival, where she received a 10/10 from Musikknyheter. They predicted that she would soon take to bigger stages, wrote that "it's not easy to see what amaida. lacks as an artist" and encouraged record labels to be the one who "runs the fastest with a pen in hand". The debut single "the dark side of the moon", released in April 2025, was described by Pulsmagasinet as "a debut that smells like stardust", and was recommended on NRK P3 Urørt. Concert time: 11:30 13:30 Duration approximately 20 minutes. Marie Skagemo is a vocalist and songwriter from Fredrikstad, now living in Kristiansand. With warm tones and lyrical songs, she creates a close and modern folk pop expression, inspired by folk singers such as Frida Ånnevik and Trygve Skaug. Her music is based on the intimate and everyday, and conveys relationships and emotions with honesty and presence. In 2025 she debuted with the album Jeg hadde elsket å elske deg, recorded together with her acoustic guitar trio. The album contains both the gentle and the more insistent expression, and shows the breadth of Skagemo's songwriting. Since the release, she has played concerts and festivals all over the country, establishing herself as a strong communicator on stage. At the same time, she is now working on a new project, which will be recorded this summer. Here, she explores new aspects of her musical expression, while continuing the lyrical focus that characterizes her. Royal ShakesBEER Company presents: "Thirteenth Night or Ka di vil" by William Shakespeare translated into Norwegian by Hans-Magnus Ystgaard. Experience Shakespeare in the beautiful Herresalen – as if it were Blackfriars in London in the 17th century, with a Trøndelag twist. A shipwreck. A pair of twins separated by the sea. A girl in men's clothing, a duke with heartbreak – and a countess who falls in love with the wrong person. The Thirteenth Night is Shakespeare's sunny, intricate comedy about love gone astray, longing and laughter – about everyone who loves wrongly, and yet ends up right.
