Trondheim in summer

Fun and flavourful!

Halfway(ish!) between the North and the South lies Trondheim, a beautiful city full of friendly locals, called Trøndere in Norwegian. Here, Viking history meets a young, creative vibe. The city is home to the iconic Nidaros Cathedral, a national treasure, while the state-of-the-art museum PoMo is one of several experiences that has put Trondheim on the cultural map.

The city is also home to two Michelin-starred restaurants: Fagn, known for its inventive Nordic cuisine, and Speilsalen, at the elegant, listed Britannia Hotel. It’s no surprise that international culinary experts named Trøndelag – the county in which Trondheim is located – the European Region of Gastronomy in 2022 – the first time the title was awarded to a Norwegian region.

With a compact and pedestrian-friendly city centre and reliable public transport, getting around Trondheim is easy.

Stroll around the colourful, cobbled pedestrian streets in the historic Bakklandet area – a popular meeting place that manages to be both hip and charming at the same time.

Enjoy a coffee at one of the many cosy local cafés, before hopping on a bike, just like the locals do!

In the last few years, Trondheim has established itself as Norway's leading cycling city. Bakklandet is home to Trampe, the world's first bicycle lift!

Continue cycling or walk across the Gamle Bybro bridge towards the city centre. Take your time so you don't miss…

… the view of the 18th century wooden warehouses that line the Nidelva river.

When you get to the other side of the river, head to the Nidarosdomen Cathedral, Trondheim’s Gothic queen.

"In the Artist's Garden" Tor-Arne Moen and Clare Woods

The exhibition "In the Artist's Garden", a duo exhibition with Tor-Arne Moen and Clare Woods, opens on Saturday, April 11th at 1 pm and will be on display until the end of May. Tor-Arne Moen (b. Notodden 1966) turns 60 on May 13th this year, and we start the celebration by showing the large-format painting "Humlehimmel". "Almost every day since the beginning of June I have taken a flower or a twig from our garden, put it in water and conscientiously painted it into a large picture that has slowly taken its baroque form as new plants have bloomed or simply enticed with their summery, ephemeral beauty." Tor-Arne Moen, August 8, 2025 Once the summer garden flowers were attached to the canvas, he embarked on studies of Telemark's atmospheric ponds, which has resulted in a series of beautiful and colorful paintings of autumn water lily leaves. Moen's paintings are joined by British Clare Woods. It is a pleasure for us to be able to show her graphic works to a Trøndelag audience for the first time. Woods has recently worked with the still life motif, but we also show a wider range of motifs in the exhibition. She has an impressive CV with many solo exhibitions both in her home country and internationally, and is represented in a number of public collections. She will open a major museum exhibition in London this summer; "A Garden Without Seasons" at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Tor-Arne Moen has captured his work on "Humlehimmel" on film, which will be shown during the exhibition. We hope the exhibition will give the audience a beautiful respite in a troubled world, and a taste of summer's abundance of plants and colors.

Verdslitteraturen har sett eit like formidabelt avtrykk i Andeby. Angel's Egg

Tenshi no tamago (Mamoru Oshii, Japan 1985) 1h 11m - Japanese voice, Norwegian subtitles - Age limit 15 years In Angel's Egg, we follow a nameless girl wandering through a desolate, otherworldly landscape. She looks after a large egg that she hides under her dress. Apart from a fateful encounter with an unknown boy, she is apparently the only living person there. What has happened in this world that makes it abandoned? Why is the girl alone? Who is the boy? What is inside the egg, and why is the girl looking after it? Director and screenwriter Mamoru Oshii does not provide any definitive answers to these questions. However, one can say that Angel's Egg is a symbolic and lyrical portrayal of existential anxiety, loneliness and melancholy in a world and an existence that has lost an overall order and a greater meaning. With few lines and without a clear plot, Yoshitaka Amano's atmospheric animations create the feeling that you are watching animated art rather than a traditional narrative. Review: Bergen Film Club

Art Club: The Power of Colors – an evening with Ingrid Simensen

Trondheim Art Museum's Art Club invites you to an inspiring evening with color consultant Ingrid Simensen on Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 PM at the Literature House in Trondheim. Free for members of the Art Club at TKM. Not a member? Ticket costs 200,- What happens when colors not only change the space, but also how we feel in it? When color consultant Ingrid Simensen renovated her own home, she discovered how important light, surroundings and shades are in how colors are experienced. The experience sparked a deep fascination with the interaction of colors and their ability to influence both spaces and people. This led to a new career choice, and today she is a certified color consultant from the Norwegian Color Academy. Now she wants to give more people the opportunity to experience the joy of living with colors they truly enjoy. Trondheim Art Museum's Art Club invites you to an inspiring evening at the House of Literature, where Simensen shares his personal story and his knowledge of colors. Why are colors experienced differently from one room to another? How do we find shades that harmonize with each other? And how can we use colors consciously to create environments we thrive in? Through conversation and reflection, the audience will gain insight into the meaning of colors, and how conscious color choices can create spaces with identity, balance, and belonging. The event is suitable for anyone with an interest in colors, aesthetics, space and how our surroundings affect us. WELCOME! PRACTICAL INFORMATION If you are a member of the Art Club, you will of course have free entry. You should have received a promo code by email so that you can collect your free ticket. BÆNCH is a young Danish rock band that explores an atmospheric and dynamic rock sound with international potential. Dark guitar elements, expressive synth surfaces and melodic and longing vocals create a grand, unpolished and authentic sound that fills a void in the Danish music scene. The band released their debut EP "GO GO GO" on April 11. It contains six songs, five of which have been in radio rotation on P6. In addition, BÆNCH has received airplay on P3, Uniradioen, as well as internationally on Amazing Radio in New York and London, and on BBC1. On "GO GO GO", the band moves through different corners of their musical universe - from enormous energy discharges that hit the listener like a punch in the face, to more sonic, introspective and thoughtful moments. Danish music media and a number of international blogs point to BÆNCH as a rock name to keep an eye on. In connection with the EP, BÆNCH embarked on an autumn tour with several sold-out concerts, which took them around Denmark, Germany, Norway and the UK, distributed across 10 venues. It is especially live that the band shows their strength, and their concerts have been praised by both critics and music media. They proved this, among other things, at Roskilde Festival, where GAFFA gave them 5 stars, at Spot Festival where Soundvenue highlighted BÆNCH as one of the absolute highlights, and at the Norwegian festival by:Larm where GAFFA Norway gave them 5 stars. BÆNCH consists of Frederik Rasmussen (vocals, guitar), Emil Harboe (drums), Thea Hamborg (keys, synth, bass, vocals) and Alfred Leisgaard (guitar, bass, synth).

    Belladonna of Sadness

Kanashimi no Beradonna (Eiichi Yamamoto, Japan 1973) 1h 26m - Japanese voice, English subtitles - Age limit 15 years Is there any Japanese anime more scandalous and beautiful than Belladonna of Sadness? It premiered at the 1973 Berlin International Film Festival and single-handedly ensured that it would be the last film from animation studio Mushi Production. Inspired by the 1862 book La Sorcière (English title Satanism and Witchcraft) by Jules Michelet, it tells the story of Jeanne who sells herself to the devil in late 18th-century France. Many consider the film to be the most beautiful anime in history, with its exquisite watercolors, paintings, imaginative drawings and elaborate portraits. Much of the controversy lies in its treatment of female sexuality, the generally unsympathetic male characters, the liberated eroticism and the oppression by the upper class and church, which in the film forms the basis for the French Revolution. Definitely an anime not intended for children! Previously, the film has been available heavily edited and censored, now it is finally possible to experience it in a complete and beautiful 4K DCP.
