Norwegian
Scenic Routes

The world’s most beautiful road trips

Along selected roads in Norway, natural wonders are amplified by art, design, and architecture …

… designed to bring you closer to nature in new and surprising ways.

From the far north to the deep southwest, Norwegian architecture and design have stepped into the landscape …

… to intervene in the scenery along 18 particularly beautiful stretches of road.

You’ll find unexpected rest stops …

… breathtaking viewpoints …

… and astonishing art installations.

Meet the award-winning Norwegian Scenic Routes.

The best of two worlds

Imagine driving along a road with stunning views of fjords, mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers. At the perfect moment, you arrive at a spectacular viewpoint where you can stop and take it all in without having to concentrate on your driving.

This is exactly what you can experience on 18 designated Norwegian roads. Here, Norwegian architecture and design interact with nature to enhance and create new experiences.

Several renowned Norwegian architects, artists and designers have contributed to the project, including Snøhetta, Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, Jensen & Skodvin, and Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk. International contributors include French-American Louise Bourgeois and Swiss Peter Zumthor.

18 panoramic drives

The 18 drives are some of the most beautiful road stretches in Norway, taking you along the coast and across mountains throughout the country. In total, they cover 2,240 kilometres. Each route includes several impressive stops – both viewpoints, art installations, and even rest areas with extremely fancy bathrooms.
Please be aware that some of the Norwegian Scenic Routes follow very narrow and winding roads, where passing places must often be used to allow oncoming traffic to pass. Make sure to allow extra time for your journey. Certain routes, such as the Norwegian Scenic Route Gamle Strynefjellsvegen, are not suited for motorhomes or caravans.
Please use rest areas for short breaks only. Overnight stays are not welcome, and many places strictly forbidden.
