What is Trollstigen?

Trollstigen is a famous, scenic road in Rauma, best-known for its 11 dramatic hairpin bends.

There are two architecturally designed viewpoints at the Trollstigen plateau, offering a full view of the massive mountain landscape. The largest of them soars 200 meters above Stigfossen waterfall and the Trollstigen road.

Trollstigen-Geiranger scenic route

The Trollstigen-Geiranger route is 104-kilometre-long and runs between Åndalsnes and Geiranger in Western Norway: From Sogge Bru in Romsdalen to Langvatnet near Strynefjellet.

The route is usually open from mid May to October/November. Please note that the road is closed during winter, and the road may also close at short notice due to heavy rain. Always check the route in advance of your journey. The Ørnevegen road that leads to Geiranger is open all year.

Also: Only park at designated parking areas along the way!

Norwegian Scenic Routes: Practical info

Some Norwegian Scenic Routes are quite narrow, especially for caravans and motorhomes. It is only possible to pass oncoming traffic at designated passing points on some stretches. As a result, you might experience queues during the high season in summer.

Certain Norwegian Scenic Routes are closed in winter. Please check nasjonaleturistveger.no/en before you go.

You can also find traffic information, route suggestions and more at Statens Vegvesen. Download their app in App Store or Google Play.
