Get ready for action-packed adventures, extreme surroundings, and Norwegian food specialities in Voss, the adrenaline capital of Norway.
The village Voss welcomes you with snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, wild rivers and waterfalls, and calm lakes. It is home to around 15,000 people and has a prime location between Bergen, the Sognefjord and the Hardangerfjord.
If you’re an adrenalin-junkie, this is the place to visit. Challenge the rapids of one of Europe’s best rafting rivers, jump out of a plane (with a parachute, of course) or soar above the landscape in a paraglider.
The two ski resorts Myrkdalen Fjellandsby and Voss Resort make Voss one of the best ski destinations in Fjord Norway during winter. The rest of the year, the varied landscape is ideal for hiking, climbing, kayaking, biking and so much more.
You can also travel directly from the train station to the mountains in nine minutes with the Voss Gondola!
At the top of Mount Hangurstoppen, 820 metres above sea level, lies the largest restaurant in Voss.
The region has tasty food traditions, and even Gordon Ramsay has visited Voss – to try the traditional local dish smalahove (sheep’s head). You can taste this speciality in the farmhouse Smalahovetunet. On the menu, you’ll also find cured meat, salted and dried ribs of mutton, and sour cream porridge.
Voss has achieved the certification Sustainable Destination. Although this does not mean that the destination is sustainable, it does mean that it has made a commitment to work systematically to reduce the negative effects of tourism, while strengthening its positive ripple effects.
Several well-known events take place in this village too, like Vossa Jazz and Ekstremsportveko, the world’s largest extreme sports festival!
