Cruise Norway's fjords – all electric. Here's a guide to scenic fjord cruises all over the country.

The best electric fjord cruises in Norway
Imagine this view, as you glide smoothly and silently on the fjords on modern, comfortable boats.
A fjord cruise is an amazing way to explore the coast, and by choosing one of Norway's many electric cruises, you can do so with a clearer conscience.
Norway is cruising
Norway is already the world leader when it comes to electric bikes and cars, and the revolution has hit the fjords as well. More and more electric day cruise ships, express boats, and ferries are emerging, giving you the opportunity to enjoy quiet, smooth, and scenic travel.
Many of Norway's newest electric and hybrid vessels are designed and built in Norway, bringing together pioneering technology, innovative design, and generations of maritime expertise. The result is a new way to explore the coast – and further proof of Norway's leading role in shaping the future of sustainable seafaring.
Quiet, zero-emission travel feels perfectly at home among Norway’s pristine fjords and dramatic coastal landscapes. Step out on deck, or settle into a warm and comfortable lounge with elegant Nordic design and panoramic windows made for soaking up the view.
All that remains is to choose your journey. And with so many unforgettable cruises to discover, that may be the hardest part!

Electric ferries and express boats
Norway introduced a zero-emission requirement for public procurement of ferries from 1 January 2025.
In Norway, there are a total of 132 car ferry routes and 92 passenger boat routes.
As of July 2026, 44 per cent of all car ferry routes and 20 per cent of all passenger boat routes in Norway have at least one electric vessel in operation.

Zero-emission in the UNESCO fjords
Zero-emission requirements for ships in Norway's World Heritage fjords came into force on 1 January 2026. The ban applies to passenger ships and ferries under 10,000 gross tonnage. For larger cruise ships, the requirement has been postponed until 1 January 2032.
Costal Express route
Did you know that you can cruise along the whole of Norway if you want to? There are two major operators sailing along the Norwegian Coastal Express route, Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages.
Havila Voyages operates some of the world's most modern low emission cruise ships, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and large battery packs. Their vessels can sail for hours emission-free.
Hurtigruten is also working continuously to reduce our impact and improve how they sail through technology, innovation, and everyday choices on board.
It's also worth mentioning Hurtigruten Norway's ambitious "Sea Zero" project, where they aim to build the world's first zero-emission cruise ship by 2030.
