The best of two worlds

Imagine driving along a road with stunning views of fjords, mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers. At the perfect moment, you arrive at a spectacular viewpoint where you can stop and take it all in without having to concentrate on your driving.

This is exactly what you can experience on 18 designated Norwegian roads. Here, Norwegian architecture and design interact with nature to enhance and create new experiences. The Norwegian Scenic Routes combine nature, architecture, and design into something greater than the sum of its parts – and  are some of Norway’s top natural highlights.

Join us on a tour around Andøya Scenic Route for tips to the top experiences on the island. We're talking giant whales, wild nature, surprising architecture and plenty of other wow moments!

Also, check out the video below about four friends whose road trip takes them to the Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet

The 18 panoramic drives are some of the most beautiful road stretches in Norway, taking you along the coast and across mountains throughout Norway. In total, they cover 2,136 kilometres. Each route includes several impressive stops – both viewpoints, art installations, and even rest areas with extremely fancy bathrooms.

Several renowned Norwegian architects and designers have contributed to the project, including Snøhetta, Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, Jensen & Skodvin, and Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk. International contributors include French-American Louise Bourgeois and Swiss Peter Zumthor.

Practical info

Some Norwegian Scenic Routes are quite narrow, especially for caravans and motorhomes. It is only possible to pass oncoming traffic at designated passing points on some stretches. As a result, you might experience queues in the high season in summer.

Certain Norwegian Scenic Routes are closed during winter. Please check nasjonaleturistveger.no before you go.
