ÅlSkarslia Ridesenter Ål in Hallingdal
Experience riding tours in the high mountain terrain in areas of Skarslia, Bergsjø, Rødungen, Varaldset and Tvist. Skarslia offers 2 and 4 hour trips, daytrips or several days. Guides with good local knowledge will ensure you will have a splendid experience horseback riding an Icelandic horse. Skarslia also offers riding for children on a riding ground with instruction. Mountain biking in Ål gives you exciting challenges in beautiful nature, whether you prefer a trails in the high mountains, in the forest or close to the centre. A selection of bike trips for mountain biking and cycling on idyllic gravel roads in the mountains have been tracked and you can find them at trailguide.no/ (private and unofficial website). New and organized trails will be established in the years to come as an result of the big mountain bike commitment in Ål and Hallingdal. Downhill cycling is possible to try in Huckfest Bike Park at Ål Ski centre. Suitable for people who enjoy speed and excitement! You will also find a selection of facilitated downhill pathways of varied difficulty all over Ål. The cycle park is also arena for the bicycle festival Huckfest Bike Festival every summer. The park is open parts of the summer and on request. In 2021, a new trail opened up right above the train station in Ål city center. ÅlLeveld Kunstnartun Ål in Hallingdal
Leveld Kunstnartun is a work place for practising artists and cultural workers. Artists come here for shorter or longer periods and work. Leveld Kunstnartun is close to the local enviorment and a calm place, where nature, seasons and the light shall give inspiration and good working conditions. The Bjørneboe-loft, which Lisel and Jens Bjørneboe used as a holiday cabin and work place, is a cultural historic jewel at kunstnartunet (the artists yard). On the outdoor stage you can take a break after the tour around Leveld. Kunstnartunet has two houses, one studio and the workshop Låven (the Barn) built in 2015.

In the Climbing park High and Low there are a number of fun challenges for the whole family! You are guaranteed exciting and challenging experiences whether you'll take a tour of the many climbing slopes, soar in zip-line or throw yourself off Ørnestupet. The trails have different levels of difficulty, and before you start, you get the necessary equipment and security training organized by experienced instructors. High and Low Climbing Park: High ropes park with more than 50 elements on poles and trees. Everything from mini-tracks (min. hight 110 cm) for the smallest ones to family trail with 8 obstacle, and an extreme track for the thoughest ones. If you like being in the mountain hiking, bicycling or skiing, Liatoppen Fjellstue is a great place to start. During wintertime there are ski trails with floodlight right outside the door, so you can ski in the eventing also, and if you prefer downhill-skiing, Ål Skisenter is not too far away. During summertime there are a lot of trails for hiking and bicycling in the beautiful mountain area around Liatoppen Fjellstue. If you follow the mountain road you will find nice bathing spots and mountain farms where you can buy local dairy products such as butter, cheese and sour cream. Liatoppen Fjellstue are doing their best to give their guests the activities and entertainment they want. Combined with excellent food they can promise you a great time and the best service. If you want to arrange meetings or conferences, they offer whiteboard, overhead, projector, sound system and screen. During autumn 2015 they rehabilitated the Fjellstue both inside and outside and it has given it a very nice cottage atmosphere. At Liatoppen Fjellstue you can rent electrical mountainbikes, normal bikes, cross-country-skis, pulk and snowshoes.

Svarteberg Fjellgard in Votndalen is Ål ski centre’s closest neighbour. The farm was run as a bed and breakfast up until 1996. However, today’s hosts offer overnight accommodation in three cottages. Trevet: Originally used for drying hay, but now converted into a cottage sleeping 5; two bedrooms, bathroom/WC, large room with kitchen area and stove. Stabburet: Storehouse converted into a cottage sleeping 8-10, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom/WC, drying cupboard and dishwasher. Summer farms - Traditionally the farmers would take their sheeps, cows and horses up to their summer farms, during the summer. The farmers would produce food from the milk, different types of cheese, sour creams and so on. The animals graze in the mountains in the summertime. Even though many do not do this today, there are still some farmers that live in the mouintain all of summer. Visit one of the summer farms to experience some traditional and local food the way it was served a hundred years ago. Hiking in the mountain - Bergsjøstølen is a great base for hiking. You can choose between easy hikes or more strenious hikes. Activites Winter Cross-country skiing - Ål has over 400km of groomed ski trails, and Bergsjøstølen is a great starting point for cross-country. Kiting - One of the best areas in Norway for kiting. You can join a course with an insturctor several weekends throughout the winter. Backcountry skiing - Behind Bergsjøstølen you can find some great terrain for backcountry skiing. Sataslåtten Camping is situated 4 km east of the centre of Ål by the Hallingdal river. 15 camping cottages with a total of 64 beds (no sanitary facilities in the cottages). Good space for caravans/mobile homes and tents. Good opportunities for fishing and hikes, and cycling at Hallingdalsløypa which passes nearby. There are also good boulder stones for climbing, ask the staff at the camping for more information. Sanitary emptying facilities for mobile homes is by the drive-in at the municipaliti factory plant, at Oppsjø.

Fagerdalen is situated on the road that goes from the Bergsjø area to Hovet via Tvist. Refreshments and sale of sour cream, cream porridge and traditional farm products including farmhouse cheeses such as surystil, trøgost and knaost. The café is open every day from 12 pm until 5 pm from 3 July until 23 August, and there is also sale of dairy products. Fagerdalen also serves a lunch buffet for groups of 10 people or more, just call to make a booking. The hosts are happy to welcome groups for meals in Gamlefjøset and Grisebingen bar. The Chefs in Bergtatt Bistro at Hallingdal Feriepark serves delicious lunch and dinner every day. Their specialities are dishes with local food from Hallingdal varied with more international recipies. The restaurant is also open for those who do not visit the holiday park. The restaurant offers party menues for all kinds of occasions. Choose from either the standard menues or create your own. The chefs are more than happy to help you with advice and tips. Lambs that have been grazing in the Bergsjø area in Ål are the basic material for all the products this business delivers - dried and cured leg of lamb (young mutton), salted and dried lamb, lamb meat, lamb thigh and much more.
